Steve Nowlin, shown at right in a 2002 Anniston Star file photo, is a familiar name here in Calhoun County. The education administration professor at Jacksonville State University served as Anniston's interim superintendent from 2000 to 2002. He also served as interim superintendent with the Madison City Schools. Before coming to Alabama, he was an elected superintendent in Tennessee.

WRBL-TV in Columbus, Ga., reports he's the new interim chief for the Lee County Schools. In the story, Nowlin cites one similarity linking all three jobs: fluctuating enrollments due to the Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure plan.
